Job Description

This individual will lead and manage a team responsible for a Group-3 UAV avionics and payload integrations, including both electrical systems and software development, through the complete system development life-cycle in a multidisciplinary aerospace environment.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related.
  • 7+ years of avionics related systems engineering experience.
  • UAV or airborne systems payload integration experience.
  • US Citizenship and the ability of obtain DoD security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of electrical and software engineers, managing the task list with work assignments, performing technical reviews, and leading new technical developments.
  • Analyze, decompose, translate, and create requirements for avionics changes and new payload integration within an existing system of moderate to high complexity.
  • Review technical problems; provide solutions for software, hardware, and systems; troubleshoot operating anomalies with emphasis on electronics and software.
  • Develop functional, interface, and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation. Identify and document architecturally significant requirements and technical risk areas. Manage documentation of technical designs, user training, and operation manuals.
  • Lead technical proposal preparation and serve as the subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal, and customer reviews. Support elaboration of systems activities development plans in the context of a team and with program execution, including customization of systems development processes.
  • Serve in a design quality role (systems) helping to ensure that project planning is accomplished to the appropriate level of fidelity and ensure that development teams are following appropriate processes.
  • Maintain awareness of technology within the domain or system and develop technology strategies for the domain or system. Provide inputs to technical and product roadmaps.
  • Draft and review Interim and Permanent Flight Clearances for the integration of respective avionics or payloads.
  • Lead requirements analysis and design / code reviews.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Extensive experience working in software development for mission critical systems.
  • Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with C, C++, C#, Python, Arduino, or similar microcontroller languages.
  • A technical understanding of aircraft flight controls and hands-on experience writing autopilot code and hands-on experience flying model aircraft.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail with creative and innovative thinking and planning.
  • Must be a team player with great communication skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Experience contributing to the flight clearance and/or safety review process.
